- Notes: Join pianist Sean Fleming, drummer Doug Kennedy, and bassist Chuck McGregor for the “Ragtime and Rarities Concert,” a collection of Novelty piano, Ragtime, jazz, and stride piano pieces on Sunday, September 21st at 2:00. The concert will feature both well-known and rarely-played compositions by “Zez” Confrey, George Gershwin, Scott Joplin, Joseph F. Lamb, Ferd. “Jelly Roll” Morton. Joplin’s famous Rags “The Entertainer” and “Elite Syncopations”, as well as Rags by Joseph F. Lamb will be played. “Novelty” piano pieces by “Zez” Confrey will be performed, including the aptly-named “Kitten on the Keys”. “Jelly Roll” Morton’s famous signature piece the “Original Jelly Roll Blues” and several other Morton pieces will be featured. Included will be transcriptions of George Gershwin’s piano rolls, with Gershwin’s own arrangements of such favorites as “Clap Yo’ Hand” and “‘S Wonderful”. An arrangement by the mid-20th century orchestral composer Peter De Rose of the beautiful ballad “Deep Purple” will be featured. A special part of the concert will be rarely-performed transcriptions of Thomas “Fats” Waller’s piano arrangements, including “Honeysuckle Rose” and “Gladsye”. A variety of other light jazz and popular pieces will be played. Finally, as a special treat, a Ragtime arrangement of “Für Elise” by the virtuoso Ethan Uslan will be performed.
