- Notes: Saturday, Jan. 5, and Sunday, Jan. 6, at 2 p.m., the Boar’s Head and Yule Log Choral will perform during a benefit concert festival for Rockland District Nurses Association, at Rockland Congregational Church. Leticia vanVuuren will director the Boar’s Head Community Choir. Midcoast Brass Quintet and organist Sean Fleming will also be in attendance. All the performers will be in costumes, and audience members will have the chance to participate with the singing of carols. A gala reception to meet the performers will follow the event. Free will giving at the door. Children welcome. All the proceeds received this year will benefit the Rockland District Nursing Association (RDNA) Nancy K Lewis Memorial Fund, in memory of the agency’s long standing nursing committee chair and Rockland Congregational Church’s parish nurse. The fund is invested for growth and in support of RDNA community nursing care into the future. Nancy Lewis’ vision builds on the foundation laid by founding nurse Eliza Steele, according to a news release. In 2019, RDNA will celebrate 90 years of service. “The generosity of this community continues to allow RDNA to reach neighbors otherwise without access to this nursing care,” the release said. Today, nurses annually visit close to 200 residents, predominantly seniors, living independently in Rockland, Thomaston, South Thomaston, Owls Head, St. George, Cushing, Union and Warren. Without federal, state or insurance payments, RDNA relies on gifts and contributions to cover the majority of the annual operating costs, keeping fees affordable. “If you are looking to warm your hearts, sing the music, feel the joy of the Season, and support a most worthy and local cause, then join us at The Boar’s Head and Yule Log Choral Festival!” the release said.
