- Notes: Sean Fleming, Dr. Anthony Antolini, and John David Adams will present “An American Sampler: A Chronological Retrospective of American Music from 1814 to 2014” on Sunday, June 29th at 3:00 p.m. at the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor. Featured at this concert will be song settings and instrumental pieces by Stephen Foster, John Duke, Scott Joplin, Thomas “Fats” Waller, Cole Porter, Robert Elmore, and more. Beautiful settings of Walt Whitman’s poetry by Ned Rorem and Leonard Bernstein will be sung by bass-baritone John David Adams. Two pieces by the virtuoso organist Robert Elmore will be featured: The beautiful setting of the Moravian hymn “Jesus Makes My Heart Rejoice”, and the flashy “Rhumba”. Dr. Anthony Antolini will join Sean Fleming for a piano and organ duet, the “Church Sonata” by Myron Roberts. The two will also perform a rarely performed duet, the “Open Diapason March”, written for two players on a single organ. Of special note will be the world premier of Maine composer Aaron Robinson’s piece, “I Paint What I See”, a setting of E.B. White’s famous poem. Patriotic songs appropriate to the season will be sung by the audience; including the seldom-sung original four verses of “The Star-Spangled Banner”, in honor of the 200th anniversary of our national anthem. Do not miss this one-of-a-kind concert. Tickets are $15 per person, and can be purchased at the door or in Boothbay Harbor at A Silver Lining, Sherman’s Bookstore, St Andrews Village, the Boothbay Harbor Chamber of Commerce, or the Boothbay Information Center.
