Annual Westport Island Labor Day Picnic

With musical guest Sean Fleming and His Red Hot Peppers

at the “Old Town Hall” lawn on Westport Island

Monday, September 1 from 2-4 pm

The Westport Island Democrats are again hosting their traditional Labor Day picnic, this year with special musical guest Sean Fleming and his Red Hot Peppers band. Expect ragtime and New Orleans style jazz. Bring you dancing shoes to tap to the beat or get up and dance!

Grilled hot dogs, chips and ice cream bars will be provided. Attendees are encouraged to bring a pot luck side dish if they wish. Bring a folding chair for comfort.

Special guest will be Representative Holly Stover of state district 48.

The performance will include pieces originally played by “Jelly Roll” Morton, Louis Armstrong, Scott Joplin, the New Orleans Rhythm Kings, and more, and some early Dixieland-style hits as “The Chant,” “Black Bottom Stomp,” “Tiger Rag,” and more! In fact, the Red Hot Peppers band for this concert will include the same instrumental configuration that “Jelly Roll” Morton used in his trend-setting Red Hot Peppers in the 1920s; with Sean Fleming on piano, Phil Clement on banjo and guitar, Mitch Kihn on clarinet, Doug Kennedy on drums, Sebastian Jerosch on trombone, Peter Stuart on trumpet, and Anne-Marie D’Amico on tuba. This concert is sure to be a favorite for people of all ages.
